The Zen Master Hakuin
Hakuin was the reviver of Rinzai Zen in Japan, and his teachings form the basis for all Rinzai Zen being taught today. Translated from the Japanese in this book are 3 works: The Ortegama, for the first time in its entirety, and Hebichiichigo and Yabukoji, both unavailable in English before this work.
Written in the form of letters, they comprise, in effect sermons and lectures on the study of Zen, its relationship to other schools, and other matters. The Yabukoji contains a discussion of the koan “Sound of one hand”, a subject of meditation Hakuin camem up with for his students.
