To practice Ch'an
in the world of desire
takes powerful discernment,
but the lotus that blooms
in the midst of fire
can never be destroyed.
Pradhanashura broke the gravest precepts
yet awoke to the Unborn,
and the buddhahood
he achieved long ago endures to this day.
